PC Weenies #882 was a great excuse for me to draw non-human characters - aka trolls. I paired down the number of trolls in the final drawing - but that was due to laziness on my part.

PCW #880

PC Weenies #880 features a wonderful guest-toon, courtesy of talented cartoonist extrodinaire: Chad Diez. Chad was only one of two cartoonists who responded to my plea - and I would like to sincerely thank him for cranking out today's hilarious toon. He captures the quintessential Bob, and I think his toon rocks! PCW #879

PCW #879 pays homage to one of my favorite websites on the 'net - Fark. The one thing I enjoyed most in the creative process behind today's toon was the city-scape background, and the clouds. I often try to employ simple shapes to convey backgrounds and objects.

PCW #878

Featuring Guest-Stars Jeremiah Cohick and his friend Ryan Harne. I improvised the background in Photoshop. This toon was pretty straight-forward. I knew what I wanted to say, and the rest was just putting in the necessary labor. You can see the final version in PC Weenies #878.

The lonely life of a blogger. I think it probably goes without saying that I feel like "Castaway Bob" every now and then.

# 876

I'm winding things down toon-wise, as my wife and I prepare for our move to Tampa, FL. Unlike many of the toons I have drawn inthe past, I actually had a specific caption planned ahead of time for Toon #876. Of course, I wound up tweaking it in the course of drawing the toon, but the gist of it is still intact. Note the Dilbert T-shirt on the guy in the background that appears in the final version.

PCW #875

PCW #875 features guest-star celebrities Chad Simmons and his daughter Kara. This drawing was commissioned by Chad's wife Elizabeth for Fathers Day (June 14th). They will receive the original sketch plus a signed color print on heavy stock paper. I drew an alternate sketch (upper image). I prefer the lower sketch, as it was a more dynamic pose. What do you think?

PCW #874

I still have my old Apple IIGS - it props the CRT monitor I have on my desk. The whole idea behind 'lifetime memory replacement' guarantees was the crux behind today's toon, PC Weenies #874. Exactly how long does a lifetime memory replacement really last, anyway? :)

PCW #873

"A fanatic is one who redoubles his effort when he has forgotten his aim." - George Santayana. That's pretty much how I feel about organized computing religion as a whole. Read Toon #873 for what I mean...

PCW #872

Toon #872 could have been captioned as "The Devil's in the Details." - a sign that hung on the rear entrance of the old electrical engineering building that served as 'home' when I was an undergrad and grad student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. (It served as home because I never seemed to drift to far from it due to the overwhelming number of projects and homework I would always seem to have.) The motto or lesson behind today's toon: Never underestimate the value of a good heatsink and thermal paste - especially when it comes to microprocessors.

PCW #871

For Toon #871, I didn't bother to add a background - notice that Bob is sitting on a tree trunk. Originally, I wanted to place the setting outside in the wilderness, but I scrapped that idea as I continued to work on it.

On the first colored and inked version (see above), you can see that the video card sticking outside Bob's MacBook was actually pretty small. Since the focus of the toon was about the MacBook, I decided to exaggerate the size of the video card in the final version to drive home the point.

PCW #870

Here is the sketch used to create PC Weenies #870. All my sketches are fairly rough - I prefer to tighten up the line quality when I digitally ink using Corel Painter IX.5. This drawing is unique, in that it's the first time I've drawn Milton as an old man. The little girl is obviously a futurized version of Sonia. I put her in as it's been a while since her last appearance in a PCW toon.
